Arromanches (3.5km from Asnelles)

Arromanches is one of the historic places of the Normandy landing, especially for the artificial port which was installed there. It was on the beach of Arromanches that, during the battle of Normandy, immediately after D -Day (June 6, 1944), the allies established the Mulberry port, a provisional artificial port in order to allow the landing of heavy equipment, without waiting for the conquest of deep waters ports, such as those of Le Havre or Cherbourg. Although located in the center of the Gold Beach landing area, Arromanches was spared from the bulk of the fights on D -Day.
