American Cemetery (23 km from Asnelles): Located just above la plage , in the French town of Colleville-sur-Mer (Calvados), on one of the landing sites of the Allied landings of June 6, 1944. Officially inaugurated in 1956 with its memorial, this cemetery honors the American soldiers who died during the Battle of Normandy in World War II and is one of the 25 permanent U.S. burial sites on foreign soil. Ten blocks, separated by the central path into two groups of five, form the area dedicated to the graves where the remains of 9,388 people rest, including 307 unknown soldiers and four women.
British cemetery (13km from Asnelles): located in Bayeux in Calvados, it is located near the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy. It is the largest British military cemetery in France. The organization of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is responsible for the maintenance of the graves of soldiers who died during the war. Even if the war was not particularly violent in Bayeux, the dead have been brought back to this cemetery from all the surrounding regions. This also includes soldiers who died at Sword Beach.
German cemetery (37km from Asnelles): located in the Cambe in the northwest of Calvados. 21,222 German soldiers who fell during the fighting from June to August 1944 during the Battle of Normandy were buried there. The central tumulus of the cemetery, dominated by a large basalt lava cross, brings together 207 unknown soldiers and 89 identified soldiers whose names are engraved on plates. Around the tumulus group 49 rectangular lands. In each land are around 400 graves.
